Greetings to Easy Articles supporters! The new version of Easy Articles v2.0.3 allows users to link any number and any type of files to an article, making this program not only a pdf file organizer but a comprehensive file organizer for your reasearch. Now you can link any supplementary data that are becoming more and more available for recent journal articles. You can link any files with actual figures for your manuscript with the actual manuscript document file. Simply add your manuscript as a non-PubMed article (since it is not yet published), and then simply link the Word doc file, and other Sigma Plot file, Origin file, or any other related files. You can easily find the linked files since the icons for an article with linked files are in neon green, which you won't miss. You can list the linked files by pressing right-mouse click while pressing SHIFT key on an article. Clicking on a linked file will open the file through an associated program There has been so many additions to the program, it is hard to list all of them. Please refer to the News Page at http://www.synaptosoft.com/EasyArticles/News.html to get the detailed changes in chronological order. Here are the highlights of the recent updates; 1. New pdf download engine was implemented. There used to be problems with automatic download and this was due to High Wire Press(http://highwire.stanford.edu/) blocking the access to the old pdf download engine. High Wire Press was forced to block because, some scientists in France were downloading pdf files massively and High Wire Press thought there might have been some illegal activities. Anyway, we tried to convince High Wire Press that blocking the whole access wasn't a good choice, but they did not want to change their move. This forced us to change the pdf download engine and we implemented a new one that uses the same signature as Internet Explorer 5. If High Wire Press encounter the similar problem, they won't be able to block the access since blocking the access to this engine will virtually block all access by Internet Explorer. Therefore, there will by no more problems of automatic download. In addition to High Wire Press journals, now automatic download includes Nature, Nature Neuroscience, J Neruophysio, and J Physio (London). If you have any particular journal to implement automatic download, please send us a note with the name of journal. We will try to customize to allow automatic download for that journal. You can alos turn off automatic download pdf file by unchecking the "Automatic Download Pdf" option under Tree menu. 2. New Database view of Articles, Journals, and Authors. These new interfaces give a new perspective to your personal database, instead of articles, journals, and authors displayed as a tree. There are many neat features for each view, you should investigate what is available. You can invoke the new interface by running any of commands under View menu. The new interface lets you see the database as a linear array of articles, journals, and authors. It also allows more detailed view of each record in the databases. Send us a comment about the new interface. 3. In the Journals Window you can update the journal database against the PubMed journal listing. In this way the jounral database will be synchronized with the journals listed in the PubMed. In addition, you can update the list of journals that are provided by High Wire Press. You can also get more information about journals by searching journal info from PubList. All of these functions are available in the Journals Window, which can be accessed by running "Jouranls" command under View menu. Another addition related to journals is the URL for "List of Instructions for authors". 4. The new version allows you to change the pdf directory. This is very useful if you backup your database at work onto a CD or Zip disk and bring it home to see them at home. Now you only need to copy the main database file (with .mdb extension) from the CD or Zip disk, open it with Easy Articles, and then change the pdf directory to the pdf directory on the CD or Zip disk. The program will find the appropriate pdf files and other linked files from the CD or Zip disk. In this way, you don't need to copy 200 Mb of pdf files everytime. Instead simply copy the mdb file, which is usually about 2 Mb. The program will also detect readonly file and convert it to read/write file. This is useful for CD recordables and rewritables which are known to save data as readonly files. 5. Other minor fixes are following: related articles search. Quick search improved. Favorites are sorted. Update non-Pubmed article by drag and drop. Moving tree-folders by drag-drop. Locate article when adding if it already exists. Fixed a bug that goes out of program when deleting duplicated article. Advanced search allows searching of articles without pdf file linked. Fixed author list with a comma at the end. Print articles list as a hard copy. You can find the detailed updates at http://www.synaptosoft.com/EasyArticles/News.html.
